Call up the spirits of the Wild West, Spanish colonies and U.S. presidents past in the great state of Texas. Stand where history was made at the Alamo, discover the “Queen of the Missions” at Mission San Jose, and enjoy shopping, dining and a scenic cruise at San Antonio’s Riverwalk.
DAY 1 – Little Rock, Arkansas – Anticipating the exciting “Lone Star State,” we drive to our first overnight in Little Rock.
DAY 2 – Sixth Floor Museum – After an included breakfast, we arrive in Texas at our first stop, Dallas. After lunch on our own, we visit the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza to view the former School Book Depository from which Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy. This museum offers a compelling and dramatic look into the events of the JFK assassination and its aftermath. We overnight in Waco.
DAY 3 – Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum – LBJ Presidential Library – San Antonio – After an included breakfast, we visit the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Its interactive exhibits and artifacts bring the myth, legend, and fact of Texas together under one roof. After lunch on our own, we visit the Presidential Library and Museum, where we will learn about the early years, political life, and family years of the 36 th President. Next, we depart for San Antonio, the home of the Alamo. Here, time-worn adobe and stone buildings stand in the shadows of towering modern structures, while a feeling of intimacy prevails along the Paseo del Rio that leisurely meanders through the heart of San Antonio. Everywhere you look, there are signs of the “old” and the “new” – all which mold, shape, and create this exciting city. We will check into our hotel for three nights, situated along the famous Riverwalk. The remainder of the evening is at your leisure.
DAY 4 – San Jose Mission – El Mercado – The Alamo – Boat Ride – After an included breakfast, we see the history of San Antonio unfold during our visit to Mission San Jose, one of the many Spanish Colonial missions that have been preserved throughout the city. This afternoon, we visit Historic Market Square, known as El Mercado. Take your time shopping for the perfect souvenir, then grab a bite to eat at one of the many food vendors or authentic Tex-Mex restaurants lining the square. After lunch on our own, we visit the Alamo, the “Cradle of Texas Liberty.” This evening is free to enjoy at your leisure with dinner on your own, perhaps in one of the quaint restaurants along the Riverwalk. We’ll reconvene for an included boat ride on the San Antonio River, a special way to end to your day. Overnight same hotel.
DAY 5 – Leisure Day in San Antonio – After an included breakfast, today will be at leisure at explore the Riverwalk and the city on your own, using the included shuttle pass. Overnight same hotel.
DAY 6 – Fort Worth Stockyards – Greenville, TX – After an included breakfast, we depart San Antonio and visit Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards District for lunch on our own and shopping. This 125-acre complex was once the largest livestock marketing center in the Southwest and now includes galleries, restaurants, and shops in many of the original structures. We overnight in Greenville.
DAY 7 – Beale Street – Memphis, TN – After an included breakfast, we head north to our next destination, Memphis. Tonight, we visit the famous Beale Street for shopping, exploring, dining on your own and enjoying some famous Blues music.
DAY 8 – Graceland – Home – After an included breakfast, we Elvis Presley’s mansion Graceland. Here, we will see his home, memorabilia spanning his entire career, his airplanes and the auto museum featuring his motorcycles and legendary pink Cadillac. We arrive home this evening with many fond memories of the our Texas adventure.
