Experience Maine’s beautiful coastal region as we travel to the state’s largest city-by-the-sea, Portland picturesque Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and more.
Day 1 – Hagerstown, MD – A day of travel takes us through the beautiful mountains of West Virginia into the “Old Line State” of Maryland, where we overnight in Hagerstown.
Day 2 – Hershey Chocolate World – West Haven, CT – After an included breakfast, we drive through the mountains of eastern Pennsylvania, making a stop at Hershey’s Chocolate World. We take a ride through a simulated chocolate factory to learn how a cocoa bean becomes a chocolate bar. Afterwards, we can purchase delicious chocolates to take home. We continue through New York, continuing to our overnight accommodations in West Haven, CT.
Day 3 – Mark Twain Home & Museum – Portland, ME – After an included breakfast, we travel to Hartford, CT. Here, the history of another era awaits us at the Mark Twain Home & Museum. We will tour the meticulously restored Victorian home and learn about the author’s legacy. Next, we continue to the city-by-the-sea, Portland, where we overnight three nights.
Day 4 – Portland Head Lighthouse – City Tour – Narrated Harbor Cruise – After an included breakfast, we tour the city of Portland with a local step on guide. You will see views of Longfellow’s boyhood home and sea captains’ homes as we drive through historic neighborhoods overlooking the islands of Casco Bay. We will enjoy a stop at Portland Head Lighthouse then spend the afternoon enjoying lunch on your own and free time to explore downtown Portland. Next, we take a narrated cruise of Portland Harbor, Casco Bay, and picturesque Diamond Pass waterway. We sail past historic lighthouses, lobster boats, quaint villages, and islands dotted with Victorian cottages. Overnight same hotel.
Day 5 – Pineland Farms – Boothbay Railway Village Museum – After an included breakfast, we will have a guided tour of Pineland Farms. This beautiful rural landscape houses a working farm. Visit the Holstein Dairy Barn with your guide and see the award-winning dairy cows. Next, go to the creamery and watch the award-winning cheese being made before your eyes. Then, see the nationally ranked horses at their equestrian center. Shop at Pineland Farms’ Market, offering Maine-made gifts and gourmet food. Next, we explore Boothbay Railway Village Museum. You can ride the rails behind a vintage steam locomotive surrounded by historic Maine buildings preserved in a recreated village, and marvel at the antique automobile exhibit. Overnight same hotel.
Day 6 – Victoria Mansion – Bar Harbor, ME – After an included breakfast, we tour Victoria Mansion, an elegant historic home featuring spectacular architecture, stunning interiors, and exquisite, original furnishings. We continue to the lovely seaside village of Bar Harbor, Maine. The combined beauty of the sea, mountains, lakes, and forests has made this area world-famous as a summer resort. We will visit Acadia National Park, which has an unusual combination of ocean and mountain scenery. Nowhere along the Atlantic is the coastline more picturesque than here. We overnight two nights in Bar Harbor.
Day 7 – Leisure Day in Bar Harbor – After an included breakfast, today will be at leisure to do whatever most appeals to you in Bar Harbor. Overnight same hotel.
Day 8 – L.L. Bean – Freeport Outlets – New Haven, CT – After an included breakfast, we stop in Freeport for lunch on our own and shopping. The charming town of Freeport is home to the L.L. Bean flagship store and 170 outlets and boutiques. We continue to our overnight accommodations in New Haven.
Day 9 – Hagerstown, MD – After an included breakfast, we retrace our steps through New York State, and New Jersey, back to Hagerstown to overnight.
Day 10 – Home – After our included breakfast, we travel back through Pennsylvania and West Virginia into our own beautiful “Bluegrass State.”
