Day 1 – Columbia, South Carolina – Today, we enjoy a scenic drive south through Tennessee to South Carolina, where we overnight in Columbia.
Day 2 – Savannah – After an included breakfast, we head to Savannah, Georgia one of the south’s most romantic cities, with its buildings dating back to pre-Civil War Days. Originally established in 1733, James Oglethorpe laid out a city with broad streets, building sites, and 24 public squares, arranged in a perfect quilt-work pattern. We will stop for photos at Tybee Island before checking into our hotel for the next two nights in Savannah, Georgia. The rest of the evening will be at your leisure to stroll along Savannah’s beautifully restored waterfront, just a short distance from our hotel. You might choose to have dinner in one of the many seafood restaurants located here along the waterfront (meal on own).
Day 3 – Savannah Trolley Tour – Mercer-Williams Home – The Lady and Sons Restaurant – After an included breakfast, we will take a trolley tour of historic Old Savannah. Among the many things we’ll learn about this special city is the legend behind the Waving Girl Statue. We will travel through the city’s historic waterfront district where we will see the old, converted cotton warehouses, now specialty shops and restaurants. Next, we will tour the historic Mercer-Williams Home, built for Civil War General Hugh W. Mercer during 1860-1869. This elegant mansion is considered one of the most beautiful homes in all of Savannah. We have included lunch at Paula Deen’s The Lady and Sons Restaurant. After an enjoyable lunch the rest of the evening is at your leisure to explore this beautiful city.
Day 4 – Charleston – Magnolia Gardens – After an included breakfast, we depart our hotel and make our way to Magnolia Gardens. This 500-acre estate and gardens contains 900 varieties of camellias, 250 types of azaleas and hundreds of other flowering species. It is the oldest continually planted garden in America. We will take the Nature Tram through the outskirts of the plantation and swamp. During this ride you will see blackwater cypress, exotic shrubs, and native wildflowers.
