Day 1 – Hagerstown, Maryland – A day of travel takes us through the beautiful mountains of West Virginia and the “Old Line State” of Maryland, where we overnight in Hagerstown.
Day 2 – Gettysburg Film, Cyclorama, and Museum – Guided Battlefield Tour – After an included breakfast, we continue to the historic city of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the site of the most decisive battle of the Civil War. We start our visit with a Film, Cyclorama, and Museum Experience at Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitors Center. We have included lunch this afternoon. Next, we meet our step on guide for a tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield. The historic battlefield has been restored through preservation efforts to look much like it did in 1863. We spend two nights in Gettysburg.
Day 3 – Shriver House Museum – Jennie Wade House – Devil’s Den – Gettysburg National Cemetery – Kentucky State Monument – After an included breakfast, we visit the Shriver House Museum. Our guide in historic costume takes us on a tour through the restored 1860 Shriver home, explaining what life was like before, during, and after the Civil War. We will have lunch on our own in downtown Gettysburg before our visit to the Jennie Wade House, the home of the only civilian killed during the Battle of Gettysburg. Next, we drive to Devil’s Den for a self-guided tour of the grounds. This rock formation, dominated by large boulders, was the site of some of the fiercest fighting during the second day of the battle. This evening, we will take a walking tour through the cemetery where Abraham Lincoln addressed the citizens of Gettysburg. We will see the Kentucky State Monument. Erected in 1975 by the state of Kentucky, this memorial commemorates Lincoln’s address at the dedication ceremony. Overnight same hotel.
Day 4 – Amish Countryside Tour – “Moses” at Sight & Sound – Lancaster, Pennsylvania – After an included breakfast, we travel to the heart of the Amish country, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We’ll take a guided tour of the Amish countryside with a local step on guide. An Amish lunch is included this afternoon. Afterwards, we travel to the beautiful Sight & Sound Theater to experience the classic story of “Moses.” The magnitude of this production is unbelievable. Not only will you be completely immersed in the spectacular, epic events of the story, but you will experience the humanity of Moses and the children of Israel as they struggle for faith, freedom, and belonging. We overnight in Lancaster.
Day 5 – Longwood Gardens – Hagerstown, Maryland – After an included breakfast, we make our way to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, where we tour magnificent Longwood Gardens. Once the country estate of industrialist Pierre S. Dupont, Longwood is famous for its superb outdoor gardens, which include elaborate fountains, two lakes, woodlands, wildflowers, a formal rose garden, and greenhouses containing exotic tropical displays. We overnight in Hagerstown.
Day 6 – Home – After an included breakfast, we depart our hotel and return home with a variety of inspiring memories from our trip to Pennsylvania.
